KIDNEY DONATION RESEARCH
Posted on: March 6, 2012
Around the world more than 27-thousand people a year donate a kidney. A new Lawson study, the first of it’s kind, has reassuring news about the impact on their health.
The Gift of Life relay, raising awareness about organ donation and transplants, kicked off it’s fifth annual walk this morning. For kidney transplant recipient Tom Awad, it’s inconceivable that not everyone is registered to be an organ donor. Tom, and other recipients of hearts and livers, gathered this morning to begin their walk to Windsor’s Hotel Dieu Grace Hospital. Along the way raising awareness about the need for Ontario residents to register themselves as organ donors. The group plans to roll into Windsor on Saturday. Canada lags behind the rest of the world in the rates of organ donor registration and transplant physician William Wall says that it’s important for people to know they can have a lasting impact on other peoples lives.
